Built as an homage to Nashville's nickname, "Athens of the South," the Parthenon served as the Tennessee Centennial Exposition's Fine Arts Building and displayed over 1,000 works of art. While workers constructed this near-perfect replica of the temple in Athens, Greece with temporary materials like plaster, they also fortified the structure with bricks to prevent fire from destroying the artwork inside.

Memphis and Shelby County hosted their exhibits in a pyramid-shaped building as a nod to the city’s namesake of Memphis, Egypt.

Each of the five domes in the Agriculture Building housed a different exhibit of Tennessee’s agricultural products. Fruits were exhibited under the center dome while exhibits of corn, tobacco, cotton, and grasses were displayed under the four corner domes.
The Negro Building hosted over 300 exhibits. The Tuskegee Institute occupied the largest space at 1,500 square feet. The exhibits covered many topics including education, art, agriculture, and medicine. The exposition leaders intended to portray their idea of progress within the Black community and present a show of racial harmony.
At night, illuminated buildings demonstrated the exposition’s celebration of industrial progress.

While the inside of most exhibit buildings were large, open spaces, the Woman’s Building was organized into smaller period rooms. The building included a restaurant, a library featuring female authors, displays of artwork, furniture, and more. Visitors could also take cooking lessons and buy items made by women.

The Terminal Building marked the entrance of the Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railway onto the grounds of the Centennial City. Inside, different railways hosted exhibits to highlight the vegetable and mineral products of the land that bordered their routes in Tennessee and neighboring states.
